How often to clean your bath towels

How often should you clean your bath towels? Your bath towels should be cleaned every few days. Of course this does not mean that you need to do laundry every few days, but you should keep a few sets of towels around if possible so that you can swap your towels out after a few uses.

It is important to clean your towels regularly because towels stay damp for a long time after you use them. This means that mold and mildew love to grow on them. You should allow your towels to dry out thoroughly between uses to slow the spread of mold and mildew.

If your towel starts to develop an unpleasant smell you should stop using it and clean it before using it again. This is a sign that there is mold and mildew growing on the towel.

How often to clean your bath mat

How often should you clean your bath mat? Your bath mat should be cleaned at least once a week. Bath mats have the same problem as bath towels – they stay wet for a long time after you use them. This means that mold and mildew love  to grow on them.

If you have a lot of people in your household that use the same bathroom you might need to clean your bath mat more often. If a bath mat is soaked in water multiple times a day and it may not be able to fully dry between uses. This makes it an ideal breeding ground for mold and mildew.

You should keep multiple bath mats on hand if possible so that you do not need to do laundry each time your bath mat needs to be cleaned.

How often to clean your shower or tub

How often should you clean your shower or bathtub? You should clean the walls and the basin of your bathtub once a week. It is important to clean your shower regularly to prevent mold and mildew from building up and taking over your shower. Mold and mildew love to grow in damp environments like a shower or bathtub.

You do not necessarily need to clean your shower head every week. You should clean your shower head every few weeks to prevent mold from attaching to it and also to wash away any limescale that has built up.

How often to clean your toilet

How often should you clean your toilet? You should wash your toilet bowl with toilet bowl cleaner at least once a week. You do not necessarily need to scrub your toiled bowl every week, but you should at least make sure to soak the bowl with a cleaning product once a week. You should give your toiled bowl a scrub at least once every few weeks.

You should also wipe the handle and seat of your toilet with a disinfectant at least once a week. Make sure to clean the underside of the seat as well as the top side of the seat.

How often to clean your bathroom counter

How often should you clean your bathroom counter? You should clean the countertops in your bathroom at least every other week. Specifically you should wash the portion of the countertop that is next to the sink at least every other week.

When you wash your hands or use your bathroom sink, water from the sink splashes out onto the surrounding countertops. This water creates a habitat that mold and mildew like to grow in. This area needs to be cleaned frequently to prevent mold from growing.

Countertops that are farther away from the sink might not need to be cleaned as often. These countertops are less prone to growing mold and mildew and they can go a few weeks between cleanings.

  • Mirror. Your bathroom mirror needs to be cleaned when it starts to become streaky. Cleaning your bathroom mirror is more for cosmetic purposes so you can wait to clean your bathroom mirror until it becomes visibly streaky.
  • Cabinets. The inside of your bathroom cabinets should be dusted periodically just like shelves and cabinets in other parts of your house. You should dust your cabinets and check for any spilled products that need to be cleaned up every few months.
  • Walls and baseboards. The walls and baseboards in your bathroom need to be cleaned a few times a year. The baseboards in particular tend to collect dirt and hair. Cleaning walls and baseboards is mostly for cosmetic purposes so the exact frequency of clean is up to your personal preference.
